A Guide To Vases

Time to create or update your floristry toolkit?
We have all you need to take amateur flowering to the next level…..

"My trusty yellow snips are never far from me. Investing in a great pair of secateurs is the first step to creating beautiful flower arrangements - quickly and easily. I never go for a walk without taking them with me as you never know what brambles and foliage may work to bring home with you. Flower frogs in an array of sizes are the next essential tool I use constantly in my studio and for events."

In our opinion, these are quite simply the best secateurs on the market.
Made in Japan, they have seriously sharp Teflon coated carbon steel blades with no resistance, ideal for floral work. We love the canary yellow colour which means you hopefully won't lose them either!

'Frogs' or floral pin holders are a genius and sustainable alternative to flower foam or the old fashioned 'oasis'. They're designed to help shape floral arrangements, sitting at the bottom of a vessel and holding the flowers in place. Made in Japan with strong rust-proof brass pins and the larger sized holders come with a very useful rubber base to keep it in place.

We have lots of flower frogs - all essentials for the home and professional flower arranger! The flower frog trio is a great starting point as includes 3 essential sizes;  the mini flower frog set is perfect for bud vase and small arrangements; or select individual frogs in a variety of sizes to suit your needs and add to your collection…

With over 40 different types of vases to choose from in our shop - you can start or grow your collection of vessels for endless flowering fun.

We have everyday recycled vases in two sizes (email to be updated when back in stock as they fly out!); bud vases galore - buy the trio sets for great effect; rainbow swirly filigrano vases for special occasions & everyday magic; earthy terracotta vases; the hugely popular stripy jugs; and our very special hand painted Loving Cups….

Remember Willow's golden rule to keep flowers one and a half times the height of the vase they are placed in…

1. What is the difference between a pruner and a secateur?
While both pruners and secateurs are tools used for cutting plants, secateurs specifically refer to hand-held pruning shears. Pruners can be a broader category that includes various types of cutting tools, such as loppers and hedge trimmers. Secateurs are designed for more precise cuts, making them ideal for delicate tasks like trimming flowers and small branches. Willow Crossley uses the term secateurs to describe her essential hand-held tools for their precision and ease of use in her floral arrangements and garden maintenance.
3. How do I choose the right size bud vase for my flowers?
Selecting the right size bud vase depends on the type and size of the flowers you plan to display. Small glass bud vases are ideal for single stems or delicate blooms. For larger flowers like peonies or roses, a slightly bigger bud vase may be necessary to provide stability and balance. Always ensure the vase is proportionate to the flowers to maintain an elegant display.
